Mid-Term Conference Announcement & Save the Date
Cool Neighbourhoods & Cool Cities – A Joint Event on Urban Climate Adaptation
📅 Date: 12 March 2026
📍 Location: Middelburg, Netherlands
We are pleased to announce that the Cool Neighbourhoods (Interreg North-West Europe) and Cool Cities (Interreg North Sea Region) projects will co-host a Joint Mid-Term Conference on 12 March 2026.

This exciting milestone brings together two leading European projects focused on combatting urban heat stress, promoting nature-based solutions, and enhancing liveability across neighbourhoods and cities in the NWE and NSR programmes.
Why This Conference Matters
As cities across Europe face mounting pressure from climate change, collaboration across regions and programmes is essential. This joint conference will:
- Highlight key findings and results from pilot sites in both projects.
- Demonstrate tools such as the Neighbourhood Heat Stress Action Plans (NHSAPs), the Liveability Index, and urban cooling innovations.
- Facilitate peer-learning, capacity building, and knowledge exchange among practitioners, policymakers, planners, researchers, and residents.
- Strengthen inter-programme cooperation and share a roadmap for greener, cooler, and more resilient cities.
What to Expect
The day will include:
- Presentations of pilot interventions and evaluation results
- Panel discussions on participatory governance and citizen engagement
- Showcase of best practices from both Cool Neighbourhoods and Cool Cities
- Networking sessions and interactive tools
Stay Connected
This event will not only serve as a moment of reflection but also a launchpad for the second half of both projects — ensuring stronger links between urban innovation and climate adaptation strategies at the neighbourhood scale.
Together, we are building a pan-European Cool Network of climate-resilient neighbourhoods and cities.
