Citizens of Goes in the Netherlands Shape Greener Futures Through Cool Neighbourhoods

Last week, the city of Goes, Netherlands hosted a dynamic three-day information and participation event at the Theatre De Mythe, on the 10th and 12th of June, bringing residents, city officials, and project partners together to explore local development initiatives—including the inspiring work of the Cool Neighbourhoods project.

As part of Cool Neighbourhoods, two active pilot areas in Goes are engaging citizens in the co-creation of greener, more climate-resilient neighbourhoods. With urban heat stress and environmental challenges becoming increasingly urgent, these pilots are designed to show how community-led green infrastructure can make a lasting impact.

Artist Impressions & Community Dialogue

At the dedicated Cool Neighbourhoods information point, residents viewed the latest artist impressions of the proposed green designs. These visuals served as a starting point for open dialogue and valuable feedback, helping to ensure that local voices continue to shape the project as it transitions from design to implementation.

The event proved a perfect platform for sharing updates, receiving input, and reinforcing the shared vision of transforming neighbourhoods From Grey to Green. Conversations with attendees reflected strong enthusiasm and appreciation for the project’s focus on livability, biodiversity, and long-term climate adaptation.

Next Steps

The feedback received during the event will help refine design elements and guide implementation planning. As the project progresses, residents will remain key partners in realising a cooler, greener, and more inclusive Goes.

A big thank you to everyone who visited the Cool Neighbourhoods stand—your input and engagement are vital to making these transformations meaningful and lasting.
