In November 2024, the Cool Neighbourhoods project had the privilege of participating in the Interreg North Sea Programme’s Cool Cities partner meeting and conference in Gothenburg. This event brought together stakeholders dedicated to tackling urban heat stress and enhancing climate resilience across cities in the region.
Representing Cool Neighbourhoods, Tiny Maenhout from the Municipality of Middelburg presented the Cool Towns Intervention Catalogue, highlighting innovative solutions to urban heat challenges. Sabine Couroble from CAPSO also shared a powerful testimonial on how Saint-Omer, a smaller city, is successfully implementing measures to address heat stress.
The Cool Cities project, where both Middelburg and CAPSO are key partners, focuses on creating "cool routes" and "cool spaces" to protect vulnerable communities from heat stress. This collaborative initiative aims to foster climate resilience across cities in the Interreg North Sea Programme region, advancing the shared goal of cooler, more sustainable urban environments.
By connecting like-minded stakeholders, Cool Neighbourhoods and Cool Cities are paving the way for more liveable cities, united in the fight against urban heat stress.
