Cool Neighbourhoods presents at Klimaat Event Utrecht

Cool Neighbourhoods Joins Klimaat Event 2025 to Share Lessons in Urban Climate Resilience

Cool Neighbourhoods was in the spotlight on 30 October 2025 at the Klimaat Event in Utrecht, where climate-focused organisations came together to exchange insights, spark new partnerships, and showcase tools that support climate resilience at the neighbourhood scale.

During the afternoon pitch session, Emma Westerduin from Except presented the Cool Neighbourhoods project to a diverse audience of policymakers, municipalities, and sustainability practitioners. Her presentation captured the essence of our work: transforming pilot neighbourhoods across Belgium, France, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands into cooler, greener, and more liveable places.

Attendees were introduced to:

  •          Our three typologies: Inner City, Deprived Area, Green Hub
  •          The NHSAP (Neighbourhood Heat Stress Action Plan)
  •          The Cool Neighbourhoods Liveability Index
  •          Citizen Science approaches and urban heat mapping

This was a key moment to engage with new stakeholders, particularly as Interreg NWE announced its first capitalisation call, encouraging successful projects to scale and deepen impact. The event underscored how climate adaptation can be locally led, citizen-driven, and rooted in data and design.

Cool Neighbourhoods thanks the organisers and participants for the opportunity to contribute. We welcome anyone interested in learning more to explore our tools, insights, and training materials here on our website.
