Cool Neighbourhoods Featured in La Voix du Nord – Spotlight on Climate Adaptation in Saint-Omer

We’re delighted to share that La Voix du Nord, a prominent regional newspaper in France, has spotlighted the Cool Neighbourhoods project in its latest coverage of the conference held on 9 October 2025 in Saint-Omer.

This well-attended event, organised by the City of Saint-Omer and CAPSO, focused on how historic urban areas can adapt to the growing risks of climate change while improving liveability for local communities. The article captures the essence of the discussions, pilot site tours, and collaborative exchanges that took place.

Key insight from the article?

Dominique Poissonnier, forecasting expert from Météo France, presented compelling data on future climate impacts in the Audomarois region. By 2100, the area is expected to see an increase in:

  • Heatwaves
  • Tropical nights
  • Wildfire risk
Yet his message was also hopeful:

“It’s not too late to avoid the worst, as long as we all act at our level.”

Cool Neighbourhoods was proud to contribute to the event by showcasing its innovative tools, training materials, and on-the-ground pilot experiences from across North-West Europe. These practical examples are helping cities take tangible action against urban heat stress and climate vulnerabilities.
